What I have learned

Sometimes the touchpad stops working. This may be when returning from hibernate / sleep, or when disconnecting USB devices. To make the mouse come back, switch to a terminal session and enter:

sudo rmmod psmouse
sudo modprobe psmouse

It runs Xubuntu 14.04 very well.

Cannot see Wi-Fi channels 12 and 13 in Windows

I have my home network using Wi-Fi channel 13 but when running Windows 7 the Realtek rtl8188ce network adaptor cannot see beyond channel 11. I cannot work out how to fix that. In Linux, it works OK. I can sometimes make it work by repeatedly disabling and re-enabling the device, but that is not consistent.
