Immediately after installing Ubuntu...

Immediately after installing Ubuntu, install the restricted extras and a DVD player. Here's how:

• Go into the Ubuntu Software Centre and search for 'restricted extras'. You're looking for "Ubuntu restricted extras" (as opposed to Kubuntu or Xubuntu which you don't want). Install it.
• Stay in the Ubuntu Software Centre and search for 'VLC media player'. Install that.
• Stay in the Ubuntu Software Centre and search for 'libdvdread'. You should see "library for reading DVDs" is already installed.
• Exit the Ubuntu Software Centre.
• Go into Accessories and run Terminal.
• Enter "sudo /usr/share/doc/libdvdread4/install-css.sh".
• When it has finished, enter "exit".
• Insert your DVD. When it offers to "Open Movie Player", change that to "Open VLC media player" and click on "Always perform this action".

The fourth icon along is the one that makes the film go full screen.
