I used '''<code>Disk2vhd</code>''' to produce an image of my XP laptop and tried to run that as a virtual machine in <code>VirtualBox OSE</code> on my Ubuntu netbook.<br />

On trying to start the virtual XP machine I kept getting:<br />
virtualbox driver_unloaded_without_cancelling_pending_operations<br />
Online help says to use to safe boot the virtual nachine, then use <code>regedit</code> to change these key values:<br />
<br />
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Processor<br />
and<br />
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Intelppm<br />
by changing the 'Start' value to '4'.<br />
<br />
I also had to do this - and this is not anywhere online - for<br />
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\amdppm<br />
<br />
You also have to repeat this for<br />
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\...<br />
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet002\Services\...<br />
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet003\Services\...<br />
etc.<br />
