Content Management Systems

The web hosting company I use, HostPost, provides a number of cgi scripts, some of these are content management systems.  I want to determine which I want to use.

WordPress Blog Version 3.3

WordPress is arguably the most popular blogging software available today! It's easy to install and use and will allow you to have a great looking blog(s) in minutes.

Version 3 allows you to choose to install a single blog or to have multiple Wordpress blogs on a single website. Multiple blogs are more demanding on the administrator than a single blog so if you plan just a single blog choose that option.
N/A A bit 'bloggy'?
BuddyPress Version V1.5.2 + WP V3.3

BuddyPress is a suite of WordPress3 social networking plugins and themes. Wordpress3 is the single/multisite version of Wordpress. It allows you to have multiple Wordpress blogs on a single website. This will install WordPress3 together with the BuddyPress plugins. Do not use this installation if you have Wordpress3 already installed (instead upload the BuddyPress zip file directly to your web-site).

Important: WordPress3 can only run the Multisite version (and, it follows, BuddyPress) if it has been installed in the website root directory. If you install into a subdirectory you will have a Singlesite Wordpress3 installation and no BuddyPress.
N/A WordPress with irrelevant add-ons.
Joomla CMS 1.7 Version 1.7.3

Joomla! is one of the most powerful Open Source Content Management Systems on the planet. It is used all over the world for everything from simple websites to complex corporate applications. Joomla! is easy to install, simple to manage, and reliable.
N/A The two demo sites suggested on Wikipedia do not display properly in my browser.

Non-starter.

Sounded promising, but I don't like the name.

Not for me.
Geeklog Weblog Version 1.8.1

Geeklog is a 'blog', otherwise known as a Weblog. It allows you to create your own virtual community area, complete with user administration, story posting, messaging, comments, polls, calendar, weblinks, and more!

Nucleus Weblog Version 3.64

Nucleus offers you the building blocks you need to create a web presence. Whether you want to create a personal blog, a family page, or an online business site, Nucleus CMS can help you achieve your goals.
www.s-and-j.co.uk/nucleus Is quite a bit of faff to change the layout but still looks promising ... well, that was 4 hours of my life wasted.

Not what I want.  Too 'bloggy' and editing the side panels in raw HTML... nah.
MediaWiki Version 1.18.0

A collaborative technology for organizing information on Web sites. Work with others to maintain information. For example if you run a business you can share information with your colleagues at the same time as documenting it for yourself.
not yet Since I want a repository of data rather than a blog, might this be better?
Drupal7 CMS Version 7.10

Drupal is a free software package that allows an individual or a community of users easily to publish, manage and organize a wide variety of content on a website. Drupal is easy to install, simple to manage, and reliable.
www.s-and-j.co.uk/data Tried it.  Spent ages setting it up.  Get a random spammer requesting an account every day or so.
Overkill.
Typo3 Version 4.6.1

TYPO3 is a free Open Source content management system for enterprise purposes on the web and in intranets. It offers full flexibility and extendability while featuring an accomplished set of ready-made interfaces, functions and modules.

If you can use a computer, you can manage the content for your website. Using a graphical user interface, authors can simply create text, insert images and multimedia files, schedule content (and much more) to build and maintain a dynamic website.

This is especially true if you take advantage of TYPO3's server-side graphics generation for making image menus, graphical headlines, etc.

Just imagine: You will never need to make another menu button again, or pay a web designer to do it for you. Each time you add or change a page, the menu will automatically update to reflect the change. Having to learn or purchasing photo editing software will not be necessary. You can upload images straight to the web from your digital camera / DV camera or a scanner.
N/A Sounds like a lot of faff.
Elgg Version 1.8.1
