Highway Maintenance Code of Good Practice recommendation (group according to importance then define levels of maintenance for each group):

Group 1 A, B some C and Unclassified roads Class 2 Strategic Routes
Class 3a Main Distributors
Class 3b Secondary Distributors
Group 2 C roads and some Unclassified roads Class 4a Local Interconnecting Roads
Group 3 Some C roads and Unclassified roads Class 4b Local Access Roads


Road Network Hierarchy

Classifications: A, B, C and UC

ST_REF_TYPE ST_DESC Example Notes
1 DESIGNATED STREET NAME High Street
2 STREET DESCRIPTION Track from Farm to Road Can only exist if there is no Type 1
3 STREET NUMBER A5, B102, C123 Classified road. If type 3 exists, there must be a type 1 or type 2.
Only types 3 and 4 have ESUs.
4 UNOFFICIAL STREET NAME Lover's Lane Colloquial used name.
Only types 3 and 4 have ESUs.
